Water Tower Project - Stockholm

Nordiska Kök, the Swedish kitchen design company, together with interior designer WTP Studios have built a classic yet minimalist kitchen in a historic water tower just outside of Stockholm.

Styled by Annalena Leino and photographed by Kristofer Johnsson.

The styling of the kitchen plays off the contrasts between precious finishes such as marble & metal and warm, soft textures found within the wood and ceramic props.

The kitchen features woodwork in warm-stained oak and vibrant arabescato honed marble counter top and splashback. The warm brown tone of the oak matches the floor and fits perfectly with the beautiful vintage mid-century furniture.

The dark stained oak creates a striking contrast against the overall white of the space. Dark elements such as the doorknobs, appliances and handrail give the kitchen a nostalgic expression.

The countertop and backsplash are made of Italian arabescato honed marble and are put together with seamless details. The sink is undermounted so that the horizontal surface of the marble runs continuously on the entirety of the countertop.

Paper Porcelain dishware by HAY with its coarse recycled paper appearance is the perfect styling partner for the striking marble countertop. I love the monochromatic approach where the grey and white of the marble is pulled back in the dishware and the silverware.

The beautiful bronze architectural hardware designed by Vincent van Duysen for Maison Vervloet is very nicely emphasized by the earth ware vases and natural branches.

The inside of the kitchen cupboards are clad in white stained oak and styled with rich colors and contrasting finishes: glazed porcelains, transparent glass and speckled ceramic.

I am in awe of this minimalist styling concept where different kind of textures and materials come together seamlessly to create a warm home feeling.
